Your enterprise is your brain child, dreams, and ambition all rolled into one. Running a self owned enterprise is the dream of many young men willing to run the gauntlet of the commercial machinery. In this global economy, competition and resources are the guiding factors for commerce. While there are plenty of clients and projects to undertake due to open avenues to overseas markets, it is managing small business resources that become the challenge. While there might be plenty of opportunities to work, limited means of production and financial limitations cause most of the SMBs to take a back seat in the bigger foray.

Since 2009, a new change in the economic situations have given birth to a bright new dawn for SMBs. The aftermath of the recession of 2008 – 2009 left the mega multinational brands in a fix. Their production and manpower capabilities were severely cut down because of decelerated markets. This is where private entrepreneurs and SMBs banked up into ensuring a steady flow of work. Their prices were smaller, affordable even in recession budgets. Their quality was at par to any big unit; because competition between SMBs is intense.

However, with smaller infrastructural pressures and liabilities, SMBs could keep the cogs of the recession ridden global economy churning.

There are some essential concepts that will help you managing small business resources in your enterprise. The ideas are elementary, but vital in ensuring sufficient performance within your limited means. Here are the fundamental concepts of running SMBs better –

Hire – Train – Emancipate

Having a huge office is an infrastructural liability. This is why it is advisable to accept a "train emancipate" policy. The initial production may be slower, but the end result is more effective.

•Have small batches of employees and train them rigorously for 3 – 6 months as per requirements.

•Retain a core team of a few trainers, and let the bulk work be done from home. Hire a new batch to train for growth.

•Control quality by regular moderation and analysis by the core team.

•This saves office space requirements and resources, and hence helps you save a huge portion from your regular running costs.

Barter

This age old concept of exchanging service and goods for the same instead of money is perfect for SMBs. By finding nice requirements of other SMBs, such a barter could prove immensely cost saving for private enterprises. By keeping money in inter – business transactions to a minimum, you can save on a number of fronts. It is the perfect policy for managing small business resources as well as better commercial relation by creating partnerships for the future.
